Troy came into foster care shortly after his grandfather, who had been raising him, passed away from a terminal illness. He's had to navigate a lot on his own, since his father is incarcerated and he was removed from his mother years ago due to her substance abuse and neglect. Despite the upheaval, Troy is determined to build a normal life and hopes to join the military after he graduates next year. He's hurting right now, but he's holding on tightly to his goals for the future.

Troy takes the school bus every morning, and with the weather starting to turn, he's going to need something warm to wear while he waits. He's been clear about preferring hoodies to jackets, since he finds jackets too heavy and uncomfortable. Since Troy came into foster care with just the clothes on his back, the only hoodie he owns is now worn out and too small. A new hoodie, one that actually fits and keeps him warm, would give him comfort on those cool mornings and confidence as he walks through the school doors.
