Maya is currently participating in a program to improve her mental health. She and her brother came into care due to significant concerns about their home conditions and their parents' failure to address the children's mental health needs. Maya is now residing in a placement where she can focus on her mental well-being. While in care, she is allowed only a limited number of items, including safe clothing that cannot be used to harm herself as she works on her recovery. Maya enjoys perfume, drawing, and staying active.

Maya moved to another in residential treatment program and is working on self-harm behaviors. Maya would like therapy putty to use as a safe, hands-on coping activity. The putty provides an appropriate way to keep her hands occupied while allowing her to squeeze, stretch, and manipulate it when she is feeling stressed or overwhelmed. It can also support mindfulness, concentration, and emotional regulation while giving her a positive activity to turn to during difficult moments. Having a sensory activity she enjoys may help her practice healthier coping skills as she works toward managing difficult emotions and reducing self-harming behaviors.
