Dashawn is an autistic teenager who enjoys watching videos and TikToks for comfort and security at home. He finds these activities calming and enjoys having time to relax and engage with content that interests him. Dashawn lives in a community with more older adults than children and teenagers his age, which can make it difficult for him to connect with peers and participate in age-appropriate social activities. Opportunities to engage in activities that promote social interaction, recreation, and connection with other youth his age give Dashawn meaningful ways to build friendships and feel more connected to his community.

As an autistic individual, Dashawn relies on visual cues and videos for stimulation, comfort, and relaxation. Recently, his iPad was accidentally broken, and unfortunately, his single mother cannot afford to replace it right now. Watching videos on TikTok has always been Dashawn’s preferred way to relax and unwind after a long and challenging day. Access to his iPad also provides him with a familiar source of comfort that helps him self-regulate and maintain a calm atmosphere at home. Replacing the iPad would provide Dashawn with an important tool for relaxation, stimulation, and emotional regulation.
