Voices for Children - San DiegoKamiyah came into foster care in 2026 along with her four younger half-siblings after her mother's boyfriend sexually abused her. She now shares a two-bedroom apartment with her half-siblings, grandmother, and aunt while awaiting reunification with her father, who is being transferred to San Diego through the military after years overseas. Kamiyah loves horses, reading mystery novels, volleyball, and most of all, music.
Although Kamiyah is happy, safe, and thriving in many ways in her half-siblings' grandmother's care, they share a very small apartment, and it is difficult for everyone to coordinate to find quiet space for things like homework. Additionally, because Kamiyah's half-siblings are much younger than her, she reports that family movie nights understandably focus on them. Music has been Kamiyah's refuge — she enjoys listening to new artists and finding music that helps her process her recent challenges. Kamiyah's holiday wish is AirPods that will help her stay productive in her studies, find joy in music, and keep her inspired by her favorite artists as she dreams of her future and reflects on her past.
