Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption AssociationColby is a sweet boy still discovering the world around him, one day at a time. Colby is living in kinship care, where family connections provide important stability and support as he continues to grow. As a child with autism and developmental delays, he may experience the world a little differently and benefits from patience, understanding, and opportunities that support his individual needs. Play is an important part of his growth, giving him opportunities to build new skills, explore his interests, and connect with the people around him in ways that feel comfortable to him. With the right support, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being a kid, Colby deserves every chance to thrive, discover his potential, and create happy memories along the way.
A child-sized table and chairs would give Colby a safe, comfortable space that better meets his needs during mealtimes and therapy sessions at home. The family’s kitchen table is too tall and oversized for him, making it difficult to find a comfortable setup that accommodates his busy body and need for movement. Having a table designed for his size would encourage greater independence during meals while providing a familiar, appropriately sized space for fine motor activities with his therapist. Because Colby has autism and developmental delays, having an environment that supports his comfort and individual needs is especially important, particularly since restrictive seating options like high chairs are not a good fit for him. This table would also give him the opportunity to share activities, create, and play alongside his siblings when he feels ready for that interaction. More than just a piece of furniture, this would give Colby his own space where he can build important skills, gain confidence, and participate more comfortably in everyday family life.
