The Friends of Foster CareHank absolutely loves all things cars! Hank entered foster care at a young age and has moved through several homes, some of them far apart. In his current placement, he lives with a foster family in a small town, where a neighbor who restores classic cars lets him hand over wrenches and sweep the garage floor on Saturdays. Hank soaks up every word the man says, and it’s the first time in a long while that an adult has taken an interest in what he loves. He is doing better than he has in years, but he still worries that something will change and take it all away. Hank is quiet, observant, and happiest outdoors, whether he’s walking the creek behind the house or wandering around the garage with grease on his hands. He dreams of restoring classic cars one day, and he keeps a notebook of sketches and dream builds tucked in his backpack.
In Hank’s small town, a bike is freedom. It would let him ride to the neighbor’s garage, explore the trails near the creek, and meet up with friends without having to wait for a ride. It’s a great way for him to stay active, get outside, and build independence. For a boy who has spent so much of his life going where others decided, a bike would let him pick his own direction.
