Gabriel is a 14-year-old male who came to Shiloh House in October 2016 to work through significant trauma, dysregulation, and unhealthy coping behaviors. He comes from a home of substance abuse, physical and emotional abuse, and neglect. For the first several months of treatment, Gabriel struggled significantly, acted out frequently, and showed minimal engagement in therapy. In the last several months, however, Gabriel has shown significant improvement in all areas including educational progress, emotion regulation and behavior stability, therapeutic engagement and progress, and overall improved personal health and safety. Despite his hard work, his parents have failed to show effort and engagement, leading to a team decision to pursue alternative placement options while Gabe continues treatment at Shiloh. During this time, he has discovered a passion for running in addition to his ongoing passion in sports. He wishes to become a professional football player and has utilized running, sports, and physical activity as a healthy way to deal with stress, interact appropriately with others, and self regulate. He is a friendly and energetic teenager who is excited to use his new skills and strengths in a new foster home.
