Jakye loves to learn, but he had great difficulties in kindergarten both behaviorally and academically. In order to supplement the classroom learning Jakye uses a school-owned iPad. Both his teacher and his 1-to-1 aide feel that utilizing the iPad helps him retain information more consistently in the areas of math, reading and writing. When he is feeling frustrated, he has the ability to self-soothe at school by listening to music via the iPad. Jakye, his great-grandparents, his teacher, and his aid feel that having this technology is vital to his learning process. Jakye, and his great-grandparents would have access to the specific applications which he utilizes during the school day, which will benefit him greatly with regards to retaining and practicing learned information.
Jakye is 12 years old and lives in NJ
Jakye has endured multiple traumatic events with his birth mother and struggles with developmental delays in both speech and language. Jakye is incredibly helpful around the house and dotes on his brother, telling everyone he wants to be a good role model and big brother. Jakye works hard in school to overcome his difficulties and enjoys math, reading and writing.
