Brett once had a used bicycle, but with all his moves, it was lost in the shuffle. He lives in a safe neighborhood with a loving pre-adoptive family now. He could ride his bike to the park and to friends' homes. He didn't ask for a "new" bike, but we know that his family situation has never allowed him to have anything new. Also, this bike can be seen as an opportunity for him and his adoptive father to bond as he is very handy and he and Brett will assemble the bike together. Also, his therapist believes that now he is in a permanent placement, receiving something new may help him feel more connected to that placement.
