I have known Shakia for a couple of years. Despite all of the traumatic incidents that have happened in Shakia's life, she has truly stood the test the time. Shakia is the true definition of an "Overcomer”. While in foster care, Shakia had a baby girl. As a single teen mother, Shakia managed to gain employment through the a summer youth program and was hired permanently by her employer after the summer was over. Shakia is currently a senior in high school and has maintained honor roll while going to work and taking care of her baby girl. Shakia's plan is to attend college in the fall. Shakia is a very independent young woman, and everyone who has worked with her sings her praises. Shakia has go through more than the average teenager and still has presses through and exceeds in everything she does including motherhood. I believe that Shakia's start is not her finish but it has definitely made her the strong, independent, focused, intelligent young women that she is today. I am certain that the sky is not the limit for her; she is destined to go beyond that because she is Destined for Greatness.
