New Books to help keep Alaya's mind sharp and her imagination growing

Posted Jan 13, 2020
Alaya wants to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. She has read many books and likes to challenge herself. She asked for this book because it will take her more than a day to read. She seems to use reading as a coping mechanism and an escape from her surroundings. As a 13 year old, this is a great coping mechanism to have. We would like to encourage her to challenge herself and her reading with this Complete Jane Austen book set to help her cope with her situation and adjust to her new environment.

Alaya is 17 years old and lives in CA

Alaya has only been in our care for a short time, but has made an impact on everyone around her. As a child who has recently been placed in care, the expectation was for her to need clothing and other necessities, but when asked what she needed she simply said, "A book." When asked what she liked to read, she listed almost all books you would think a young teenager would like.
