An Ancestry DNA Kit for Randy who wants to reclaim his history

Posted May 17, 2021
Randy, a former foster youth wants an AncestryDNA kit to learn more about where he is from. Because he grew up in foster care, he doesn't really know where his ethnic and cultural roots are. Furthermore, identifying as African American, there is a loss of ethnic and cultural histories due to American chattel slavery. Randy would love to receive this wish to begin to learn and reclaim his history.

Randy is 31 years old and lives in CA

Randy is a junior college transfer and has gone through a lot. The Foster care system gave him the opportunity to have a better life. If he would have stayed in the care of his biological parents, he says doesn't know where he would be. From juvenile hall, to foster homes and group homes, his experiences in foster care make him who he is. His foster care experience gave him a second chance to get things right in life. His foster care experience surrounded him with friends, family, and mentors, who want to see him succeed. Foster care was a learning experience that was both good and bad, which allowed Randy to grow and become resilient.
