A Few Dorm Essentials for Serena who is off to college

Posted Jun 29, 2022
Graduating high school can feel like a lonely time for a youth in foster care. At Serena's graduation ceremony this week, only her boyfriend and Court Appointed Special Advocate were present to support her. No parents, aunts, or uncles cheering for her. No crowd of family to throw a graduation party afterward. Despite that, there was so much joy in Serena's face. She graduated with honors, and received several awards. As this determined lady heads off to college, the expenses of settling herself into her dorm, buying textbooks, etc., will all fall on her young shoulders. Her wish is to get several items to make her dorm a home.

Serena is 20 years old and lives in NJ

Serena is an amazing young woman who graduated from high school last week. She has a strong Christian faith and a belief that people are good and kind in spite of the family issues that put her into the foster care system at the age of 11. She spreads optimism and happiness with her beautiful smile and her gentle demeanor. She is a very hard worker who achieves excellent grades and has been accepted to college for this fall, with a major in education. Serena's goal is to become a teacher, where she can motivate boys and girls to do their best and help them to believe in themselves.
