Jala was in the foster care system from ages 12 to 18 and was impacted by getting family reunification services until the courts removed her permanently. She stayed in group homes throughout Los Angeles, and for a brief period, her aunt was her foster mother. She ran away from a group home at 18 and was homeless a week after, but despite her challenges, she believes that being on her own at a young age taught her resilience and determination. Jala is an intuitive tarot reader and a visual artist currently majoring in Communications with an emphasis on Broadcasting and Media Studies. She has always been creative since she was a child and has a therapeutic connection to her work.
