Jamarie, 20 years old, CA

Jamarie is a second-year political science major with a minor in Chicano studies, dedicated to activism and community organizing with aspirations of running for office. He created the “Latinos Unidos” photoshoot to celebrate Latino excellence and foster unity among students and community organizations. Collaborating with figures like Dolores Huerta and Edward James Olmos at the Latino Book and Family Festival, he advocates for Latino resources as a student representative at Sacramento State. Jamarie's journey began in high school in Stockton, and after relocating to Sacramento, he faced homelessness while juggling three jobs to graduate early. His resilience through multiple moves and personal challenges has significantly shaped his commitment to education and social justice.
