Kathleen, 49 years old, TX

In February 2024, Kathleen’s life took a sudden and difficult turn. She was evicted from her home in, just six months after her roommate suffered a massive heart attack. The weight of those events came crashing down all at once, and before long, Kathleen found herself without a place to call home, living out of her car and doing her best to survive. During that painful chapter, she struggled and turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. On February 1, 2025, with her loyal Shih Tzu, Langston, by her side, she made a courageous decision to change her life. She left everything behind and checked herself into detox and residential treatment. For 65 days, she committed to the hard work of healing and rebuilding. When she completed treatment, she continued her journey by moving into sober living in Houston on April 5, where she remained dedicated to her growth and recovery and can celebrate milestones of her sobriety. Soon after, she was offered an opportunity that reflected just how far she had come. She moved to help manage a women’s sober living home. While the role is not paid, it provides her with a stable, supportive environment and the chance to give back to others, walking a path she knows all too well. Family remains at the heart of everything Kathleen does. She is the proud mother of two children, a son and a daughter. They are a constant source of love, motivation, and purpose in her life. Today, Kathleen is passionate about giving back and looks forward to volunteering and serving her community again. Sobriety has given her more than a fresh start—it has given her a renewed sense of purpose.
