Chloe is in foster care, but luckily resides with her grandmother who loves her with all her heart. Chloe's mother has significant mental health issues that make it impossible for her to care for Chloe. Grandmother works full-time at a grocery store and provides for all of Chloe's needs. Chloe's favorite part of school is recess.

Chloe faces challenges in her schoolwork, often feeling overwhelmed and lost in her studies. However, when recess rolls around, her spirits lift as she eagerly anticipates the freedom of the playground. Being surrounded by her friends brings her joy, and the chance to move her body in the fresh air is something she cherishes. She yearns to join her classmates outside, laughing and running, but she knows she must first have proper winter gear—snow pants to keep her warm, gloves to protect her hands from the biting cold, and sturdy boots to navigate the snow. Until then, she anxiously awaits the day she can fully embrace the exhilaration of outdoor play.
