Foster Alumni MentorsKristiona was placed in foster care at the age of two. She was adopted but later bounced around from foster home to foster home at the age of nine. After being returned to foster care, she aged out. Despite facing everyday obstacles and medical issues, Kristiona became independent and started her college journey, which has been successful. She has graduated with her Bachelor's degree and is now looking to continue her education to work with children. Currently, she works as a teacher at an early head start preschool and enjoys every moment of it. Kristiona is committed to breaking the generational cycle of abuse and lack of education. Her ultimate goal is to own and run a summer camp for children in foster care, providing them with not only fun but also therapeutic and mentoring support.
Kristiona has recently endured a series of power outages in her apartment, with one particularly challenging stretch lasting three full days. During this time, she had to attend several important medical appointments, and when she returned home, she found that the power had gone out again. Unfortunately, this resulted in much of the food in her freezer thawing and items in her fridge spoiling due to condensation. While the landlord has since repaired the faulty fuse box that caused these outages, Kristiona is still struggling to recover from the losses. Although she has received some assistance from food banks, they haven't been able to consistently provide enough food to fully restock her household after discarding everything that spoiled. This assistance is critical for her as she works to regain stability and meet her basic needs during a particularly challenging time. This is wish 2 of 2.
