Strengthening Families IncZahir and his mom moved to Texas from New York. After living in a shelter for almost a year, they have finally been able to settle down in a place of their own. Zahir is a very intelligent child. His teachers say he's smarter than the kids in his class and also feel that maybe he should skip to the next grade.
Life had just started to get better for Zahir and his mom until recently. Due to recent cutbacks at work, his mom has lost more than half of the hours she was working. She prays that they will never have to return to living in a shelter again. She can't apply for SNAP benefits because of the government shutdown. Having access to groceries will help make sure Zahir has a nutritious meal in the morning and after school.
