California Youth ConnectionDay entered foster care at 14 with her 12 younger siblings, but was later separated from most of them as she moved between placements in two different cities. She faced a lot of instability during that time, but still stayed focused and graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA. After taking a gap year to focus on her mental health, Day is now planning to attend San Francisco State University and continue working toward independence. Her experiences have helped shape her into someone who is confident, adaptable, and caring, and she often speaks up to support other youth in her community. Day enjoys music, especially singing, and likes to spend her free time gaming with friends. She has also developed an interest in cars.
Tragically, at 18 years old, Day was diagnosed with Graves Disease. It hasn't been easy for her to navigate, as none of her sisters or parents have it. One of her biggest causes of discomfort with Graves is hyperthyroidism and how overheated she can get. No matter if it's winter or summer, her body still feels like it's in an oven, even comparable to having a heater switch that she can't shut off. This, paired with the addition of constant fatigue caused by the same disease, makes sleeping comfortably super important to her and her body. Having this specific duvet insert that accommodates her symptoms with cooling technology built in would be amazing, especially as she transitions out to an unfamiliar environment in college (which would not allow for temperature control in her room). She hopes she can have her wish come true as she begins college, so she can finally begin to get a good night's sleep and feel more at home in her dorm.
