Florida Foster Care Review

Nevaeh has been parentified for most of her life, taking care of her two younger brothers since they were very little. Her mother struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues, which left Nevaeh responsible for making decisions and caring for her siblings. Eventually, the three of them were removed from their home and placed in a shelter. After spending some time in foster care, Nevaeh aged out at 18, but she never found a permanent family. At that point, she had a baby but managed to graduate high school and is now in college. Nevaeh feels a deep sense of responsibility for her brothers, who are still in the same shelter from which she aged out. To maintain their connection, she takes the bus and uses rideshares to visit them every weekend. Although Nevaeh wishes she could afford a car for more convenient transportation, her aunt, who has a car, often lets her use it. They’re both striving to get the boys out of foster care together. Nevaeh loves to learn and aspires to become an anesthesiologist, and she is currently studying to achieve that goal.

Nevaeh is strong and responsible, and she has a close bond with her two younger brothers. She feels deeply for them, as they are still in foster care at the same shelter where she once lived before she aged out of the system. Nevaeh and her aunt are currently working together on a plan to help bring her brothers out of care. In the meantime, she continues to visit them regularly at the shelter to maintain their connection and support them as much as she can. Nevaeh is requesting a gas card, as her aunt often allows her to borrow the car for these visits and other responsibilities. This support would help her manage transportation costs and ease some of the financial burden she is currently facing.
