CA DCFS - Los Angeles CountyMontrial is a humble and kind young man who has overcome significant challenges. After experiencing physical abuse from his stepfather, he is now living with a family member who, in his words, “gives me a safe space and comfort.” Montrial has never had a birthday party and is now learning what it means to simply be a child, to have fun, feel safe, and enjoy life without the constant worry of surviving or protecting his baby brother.
Montrial has never had the opportunity to celebrate his birthday. At a young age, he has taken on the responsibility of caring for his younger brother and has had to put his own needs aside. This year, he would love the chance to go shopping and choose something special for himself. Being able to celebrate his birthday and pick out things he enjoys would bring him happiness and give him the opportunity to simply feel like a kid. After all he has experienced, a special birthday filled with joy would mean so much to Montrial.
