Nykia is a youth justice advocate with a youth-led organization advocating for Kansas youth. Beyond juvenile justice reform, Nykia hopes to be a part of the movement to close down the last youth prison in the state. Nykia believes in investing in alternative programs like recreational programs, increased educational opportunities, and job training and placement access.

Nykia’s niece is unexpectedly coming into her care, and Nykia is doing everything she can to prepare a safe and welcoming home for her during this sudden transition. Although Nykia is ready to provide the love, care, and stability her niece needs, she does not currently have a queen-size mattress, pillows, or sheets for her to sleep on. Receiving these essential bedding items would allow Nykia to create a comfortable sleeping space for her niece as quickly as possible. Having a real bed ready will help her niece feel welcomed, secure, and cared for from her very first night in Nykia’s home. This emergency wish would ease some immediate financial pressure on Nykia while helping her focus on supporting her niece through an unexpected, emotional change.
