One of Melody’s favorite ways to end her day is reading a book in bed with her foster mom. Melody is nonverbal and has developmental delays, and she shows her love of stories by snuggling in, studying the pages, and lighting up at her favorite characters. Sesame Street friends are her favorites, so a boxed set of four books starring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and Big Bird would make bedtime even more special. She could pick a different friend each night, point to the pictures, and turn the pages with her foster mom. Bright, familiar characters give her something to look at, reach for, and connect with, even without words. Each story would be a cozy ritual to share and a moment of closeness at the end of the day.
