Daniel, 25 years old

Voices for Children - San DiegoDaniel is an amazing young man that we are incredibly proud of. He was removed from his home due to emotional abuse and domestic violence between his mother and her boyfriend. Daniel was always the person in the house responsible for caring for his younger sister and trying to protect his mom from further abuse. Sadly, Daniel's mother picked her boyfriend over her children and was unwilling to do anything to get them back. Daniel became very angry at his mother's unwillingness to care for him and his sister and started to act out. He was moved from home to home due to his anger and finally had to be placed out of the county. Once he moved, his case, social worker and CASA stayed in San Diego. His social worker travels and sees him monthly and his CASA was with his social worker for his graduation. Since he was placed out of county, Daniel has turned his life around. He played football and ran track and began to find himself. He has done so well that he wants to stay out of county to stay away from any negative influences. He feels the move has given him a second chance at life and he now is looking forward to moving out on his own and going to college to major in criminal justice. Daniel will be moving into a new apartment and there are no resources or funding to assist him since he lives out of the County. His CASA and social worker are working together to ensure Daniel is able to get funds to purchase a bed and other necessities for his apartment.
Since Daniel graduated from high school and has started college, he is no longer able to reside in the group home. He is moving to a new apartment in a few weeks and needs to get necessities for his apartment. Daniel's CASA and social worker are trying to find resources for him but because he lives out of county, resources are very limited. We are all so excited for Daniel because he found a love of sports; primarily football and track and he is really good at it too. It has given Daniel a boost in his self confidence and he feels the out of county placement has saved his life. He is doing exceptionally well and wants to stay out of county to stay away from any negativity. He is playing football for the college and working part-time. He has beaten the odds! Without a father and a mother who didn't care enough about him, he feels he knows first hand how he can help others in a similar situation. He has become a role model on campus and helped many others through tough times. Please help us with resources so Daniel can purchase a bed, microwave and other household essentials.
