Thanksgiving Feast-I-Val for a deserving Foster Youth in New York City
Posted Sep 28, 2018
Every year Felix Organization puts together an amazing Thanksgiving Feast for the deserving foster youth that attended their summer camp. At the party, kids enjoy a delicious meal, participate in an art project (this year they will each receive a “chalkboard” shirt that they can draw on), dance, watch a live performance from their co-founder, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, get balloon animals and their faces painted by Kooky the Clown, and see friends they met at Camp Felix. This experience is meaningful to them because they enjoy coming together as a family every year. The holidays can be a difficult time for youth in foster care, especially Thanksgiving, because “family” is an essential part of the experience. Many of these youth have been displaced from their homes and separated from their parents, siblings, and other loved ones. The annual Felix Feast-i-val gives them a sense of belonging to a family who will always be there for them even when everything else changes around them.
