Camp To Belong for Silas to spend time with his siblings

Posted Jun 20, 2019
Silas was separated from his siblings when they were taken into foster care. Camp To Belong is a one week program that will reunite Silas with his brothers for nights of sharing cabin stories, roasting s'mores, swimming and fishing together, archery, a rock wall, etc. Campers are treated to dance parties, talent night, and a full scale carnival right at the camp. All campers are sibling sets who have been separated while in foster care, who understand and support each other. Camp To Belong will be particularly important for Silas this summer, who is anxious about his brothers drifting apart as he turns fifteen and begins working. Camp will engage Silas and his brothers in making pillows that they will exchange and take with them to help each other remember one another after camp. They will also take make scrapbooks of their camp week and attend a life seminar that includes ways to stay in touch and support each other after camp, even while in foster care.

Silas is 19 years old and lives in ME

Silas is a funny, caring middle sibling who's separated from his older and younger brothers as a result of geographically diverse foster care placements. He is looking forward to turning 15 and getting his first job someday soon, and catching up on school, so that he can be a role model to his younger brothers.

Silas receives the gift from Camp to Belong Maine!

"""Dear awesome person, thank you so much for granting this wish for Silas! Our volunteer team is meeting with him and his siblings this month to prepare for the camp week. We'll be talking about what every day will look like, and will also review a packing list. If he doesn't own something on the list, our staff will quietly note color preferences, sizing, etc. and purchase the missing items (a sleeping bag, a bathing suit, etc) and have them waiting for him on his bunk bed when he arrives. Part of the camp experience is lots of photo taking, so that Tyler and his siblings can make and take home albums as an end-of-camp activity. While most of the photos aren't publicly shareable due to privacy, please feel free to find Camp To Belong Maine on Facebook after August because we will share the photos that we can, on our Facebook page!"""
