Jewel is a former foster youth who has recently attained her Bachelor’s degree. She wants to move to a larger apartment to prepare to become a foster parent for teens. When she was just 19 years old, Jewel created a video about why foster homes for teens matter, and what teens need from foster homes. One of her lifelong dreams is to provide today’s youth with the love, security and safety that she did not consistently experience as a child or teen.

Jewel exemplifies dedication and perseverance. Just as water dripping on a rock can eventually break through, Jewel’s persistence has overcome obstacles such as facing the adult world without support after foster care. Jewel is a poised, professional, and powerful force when it comes to supporting and encouraging other young people in and from foster care. Her loving nature is evident in everything she does, and it is that love and hope that she wants to share with today’s foster youth as a future foster parent. What she wants, more than anything else, is to become a foster parent and to let today’s foster youth know that they are lovable and valuable – and that they are not alone.
