They and their siblings were taken away from their biological parents due to neglect, witnessing domestic violence, and experiencing physical and emotional abuse. August lacks confidence and is fearful of becoming independent. They struggle with basic life skills and lack many experiences, such as going to amusement parks, the mall, or just being a teen.

August uses music as a coping mechanism when they feel overwhelmed or when past traumatic memories resurface. Music helps them create a safe mental space. They rely on their aunt to cover the cost of their monthly music subscription, but sometimes, their aunt forgets to pay it. This can leave August without access to their music. A gift card would enable August to pay for a yearly subscription, ensuring they always have music to help them cope.
