Strength Based Community Change (SBCC)Christal entered foster care when she was young, but has shown remarkable strength and creativity throughout her journey. Recently, she has been working hard to improve her life and is getting ready to go back to school. She plans to switch from studying child development to culinary arts, which she’s really passionate about. Christal dreams of opening her own bakery someday, where she can create beautiful cakes and pastries. In addition to her love for cooking and baking, she enjoys painting, crafting, and dancing, which bring her joy and purpose. This year, Christal is focused on becoming more independent. She’s learning to drive, wants to get her driver’s license, and is looking for a job that supports her health needs. Eventually, she hopes to move into her own apartment. Christal is open about her experiences in foster care and is excited to learn and grow. She appreciates programs like One Simple Wish and is always looking for guidance and opportunities. With her creativity, determination, and positive attitude, Christal is on her way to building a stable and fulfilling future.
Christal is wishing for an electric scooter this Christmas because it would greatly support her growing independence. While she works toward getting her driver’s license and eventually her own car, having a scooter would give her a reliable and immediate way to get around on her own. It would also be a safer and more manageable transportation option for her health needs, especially with her asthma, allowing her to travel without overexerting herself. This would be an especially meaningful gift for Christal. Growing up in the foster care system, she rarely had the opportunity to receive significant or practical gifts that supported her dreams or daily needs. An electric scooter would make it much easier for Christal to commute to school, attend appointments, and access job opportunities that aren’t easily reachable by walking or public transportation. As she continues to build toward long term goals like stable employment and independent living, having her own method of transportation would boost her confidence, expand her mobility, and help her take meaningful steps toward the future she envisions for herself.
