In May 2026, Rose woke up and realized her mother, the sole caregiver for her and her two younger sisters, had passed away suddenly overnight from an aneurysm. Rose and her sisters spent the following weeks in shock and despair, not only grieving their mother but also entering the child welfare system with no known relatives or guardians available to care for them. Before her mother's passing, Rose was a passionate member of her high school's ROTC program and played on the basketball team, and as she started her senior year several weeks ago, she's been working to return to some sense of her old life while mourning and adjusting to her sisters being placed out of state.

As her birthday approaches, Rose can't help but think of the family trip to Disneyland she and her mother had been planning to celebrate the occasion. Her wish is for a Disneyland ticket so she can take that birthday trip with her little sisters, who were placed out of state with a paternal relative. The trip would give Rose a meaningful birthday celebration, a rare chance to see her sisters for the first time in months, and a way to carry out one of the last plans she and her mother made together.
