Amber has been saving for her summer course for quite some time. Although it puts a strain on her budget, she knows how important her education is. She is currently attending Salisbury University, completing her master's degree in social work. As someone impacted by the child welfare system as a kid, Amber's dream is to make an impact in the field of child welfare. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic hitting the county, the public schools that her kids attend have closed, creating an unexpected expense for Amber. She will need to pay for child care so that she can continue working, which will put her education potentially on hold. Amber needs some support ensuring that she will still be able to work towards her education.
Amber is 35 years old and lives in MD
From Amber: "I am a mom of 3 boys, and I work in child welfare. My biggest dream is to become a counselor for children who have experienced trauma. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in social work as part of making that dream a reality. I experienced foster care in my teens, and ultimately ended up in the custody of a relative, as my parents were unable to care for my sisters and me. As an adult, I work hard everyday to give a purpose to my experience through serving the foster care population in my area, and also by being the best mom I can be. I love staying active and spending time with my sisters. I'm not sure I would be where I am today without their love and support. Helping others is my passion, and I hope to spend the rest of my career in a role that allows me to do that every single day."
